Construction begins on site at Birmingham-based property developer Cordia Blackswan’s Build to Rent development, The Lamp Works. Enabling works are being delivered by contractor Clegg Construction to create 148 residential apartments and duplexes at The Lamp Works, alongside three commercial spaces.

The mixed-use development forms part of Cordia Blackswan’s Build to Rent offering, with a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, including affordable homes. It will sit within a series of landscaped courtyards.

Future residents at The Lamp Works will have access to communal facilities, which include a co-working space, shared lounge, a studio and communal kitchen/diner, in addition to the Lord Clifton pub located close by.

“The Lamp Works offers a unique proposition to modern city dwellers, providing quality amenities that are both practical and useful in everyday life. As always, this will be delivered whilst retaining the Jewellery Quarter’s renowned heritage and architectural design.

“The commencement of construction at The Lamp Works marks an exciting next step in our vision to revitalise Great Hampton Street and transform this key route into the city. Our aim is to create desirable spaces for the local community to enjoy whilst benefitting the local economy, and we’re proud to see our vision starting to come to life.”

Located at the intersection of Great Hampton Street and Harford Street in Birmingham city’s Jewellery Quarter, The Lamp Works development has been designed to reflect the industrial history and character of the area.

The development is formed of five new builds that aim to celebrate the industrial heritage of the site, specifically the former brass foundry and furniture factory that were situated there, as well as the existing commercial units at 30–33 Great Hampton Street, which will undergo improvements.

“The Lamp Works is an exciting scheme in an area with a strong heritage, and Clegg Construction is very pleased to be taking a key role as this development gets underway.

“This is an area that we are very familiar with, as Clegg Construction has recently delivered Gilders Yard on Great Hampton Street, a conversion and extension of the grade II listed Ashford & Sons industrial workshops into 157 apartments and commercial space.”
