Build to Rent consultancy and operating partner – VervLife – has become the first real estate business to join sustainability and planetary advocacy organisation – Business Declares.

Business Declares is a not-for-profit organisation formed by senior leaders with a vast range of experience from the SME, B Corp and FTSE100 sectors. It believes business has a major part to play in tackling the climate, ecological and social emergency.

It exists to raise awareness of the imperative to accelerate action addressing climate change, biodiversity loss and social injustice – by balancing profits with people and ethics, and to support businesses to operate within our planetary boundaries.

“We launched VervLife to bring something new and we believe wholly necessary to the Build to Rent operating arena. Our platform is built from the ground up to offer residents and our clients a more conscious and ecologically friendly approach to managing rental communities. Our latest partnership with Business Declares solidifies our intent to do things better and in a way which supports continued mitigation of the now sadly irreversible effects of climate change. We’re looking forward to sharing ideas and working towards a common goal alongside the Business Declares community.”

As part of the membership process, VervLife has committed, along with other members, to setting a net zero target by 2030 or sooner covering scope 1 and 2, in addition to considering and discussing the material scope 3 impacts of its business alongside other climate-based commitments.

The Business Declares membership includes a diverse range of organisations – including Brabners LLP, The Body Shop, Triodos Bank, Good Energy and Greentech.

“Progressive businesses are continuing to embrace Business Declares and our message. Our fast growing network of organisations from all sectors is choosing to take on board the irrevocable evidence, adding their voices to the growing number already declaring a climate and ecological emergency and accelerating their plans to address it. We are delighted that the team at VervLife has decided to join us and be part of the collective, resounding call for change.”

By joining Business Declares, VervLife has also joined the Race to Zero. This year, over 4,500 organisations have committed to halving global emissions by 2030, by joining the UN-backed, expert-reviewed #RacetoZero campaign.
