The UKAA announces two new Chairs in Scotland and the North East, as it expands activities across both locations. The Association has been working on setting up groups across the country – with Scotland and the North West first to launch. There is also further expansion planned in the Midlands with a launch expected in early 2022. The groups aim to help local Build to Rent markets develop and grow – and has been championed by Chair of the UKAA Membership, Events and Marketing Committee, Michael Howard of Urbanbubble.

For Scotland, Gillian McLees, Director of BTR at Rettie and Co has been appointed as the new Chair of UKAA Scotland. In February 2022, the UKAA will host its first Scottish event, taking place in Glasgow.

“I am delighted to be appointed Chair of the Scotland UKAA. 2022 is set to be a pivotal year in the Build to Rent sector in Scotland with the launch of landmark schemes to the public and long awaited buildings becoming operational. ‘’I am absolutely thrilled to be appointed Chair of the North West Hub for the UKAA. The region has been a driving force over recent years, contributing to the expansion of the UK Build to Rent sector and I’m excited to work with likeminded industry experts to continue with developing the UKAA and shaping the future of the industry. The North West has the ability to truly ‘set the standard’ and benchmark for other regional hubs as they immerge. Myself and the rest of the North West steering group are committed to making this a huge success in 2022 and beyond.”

The new Chairs will be supported by steering groups. Work has already started to leverage the understanding of local markets, and to build programs of activities that will:

  • Showcase what Build to Rent has to offer to the community and economy.
  • Map and understand local challenges and opportunities to the development and delivery of Build to Rent.
  • Propagate a wider network of support for buyers and suppliers in regions covered with a program of events, training and socials.
  • Gather market data and insights to promote the understanding of best practice, customers and market trends.

“The Build to Rent sector continues its upward trajectory, with every key city across the UK having communities planned, built or delivered; it was important the UKAA’s reach was truly national. It’s our ambition that the organisation (UKAA) will have strong regional forums in every area by the end of 2022, starting with the North West and Scotland. These areas are represented by a fantastic cross section of Build to Rent stakeholders and we’re excited with how this robust regional presence will strengthen the UKAA and learning amongst members.
