Grainger plc has set a new record for lease-up thanks to a stream of renters to The Headline – its first Build to Rent development at the historic site of the former Yorkshire Post building in Leeds. Opening its doors to renters in August 2021, within two months the building is 95% leased – which smashes Grainger’s own track record at other schemes across the country.
“The Headline is an excellent new development and we are delighted with the leasing progress, which far exceeds even our own expectations. It is performing significantly ahead of schedule and has set a new leasing record for Grainger, which is a real credit to our local leasing team.”
Helen Gordon, Chief Executive, Grainger plc

The Headline development overlooks the River Aire and includes 242 one and two bedroom apartments. With an additional 5,300 ft of shared social spaces, amenities include a 24-hour gym, superfast WiFi, wellness studio and private dining room.
From a stunning sky lounge and roof terrace to a co-working space, residents’ lounge and games room, residents will be able to socialise while having ample additional space to host friends and family. Each resident also has access to services such as an inhouse Resident Services Team and an on-site handyman.
“Our first residents at The Headline are settling in well, and feedback has been really positive. Our Resident Services team are looking forward to welcoming more new residents over the coming weeks and helping them to settle in and enjoy their new homes.
“Post reopening and lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, it is great to see many positive signs across the board in terms of enquiry and lease-up levels, reaffirming the strong fundamentals of the Build to Rent sector and an enduring demand for well-managed, high quality rental homes.”
Helen Gordon, Chief Executive, Grainger plc

News of The Headline scheme follows Grainger’s recent successful lease-ups – including Gatehouse Apartments in Southampton, which was fully leased in just 3.5 months earlier this year, and 9 months ahead of schedule. Grainger’s schemes – Argo Apartments in Canary Wharf and Brook Place in Sheffield currently have waiting lists.
In addition to the 1,000 new homes that have been delivered by Grainger this year, the company has a further 8,850 homes in its development pipeline, which will see the residential landlord double in size over the next five years.
From recent graduates and professionals to young families and those looking to downsize, The Headline Build to Rent scheme provides a home for everyone. The stylish apartments come with a range of furniture options, fantastic storage and modern integrated appliances, with rent prices starting from £913.
