Using leak sensors for leak detection to avoid water loss - RealPage | STRATIS | BTR News

Leaks in Build to Rent buildings can be a major pain for property managers, maintenance staff, and residents. Even a 3mm crack in a pipe can leak 1000’s of litres of water. Across England and Wales, just under 3bn litres (660 million gallons) of water is lost to leaks every day – equivalent to 1,180 Olympic swimming pools! A recent survey states that nearly half of all UK homes leak, at the worst, a major leak can destroy apartment infrastructure and displace residents, but it can also lead to other problems like mould. This can result in thousands of pounds of repairs and excess water usage.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) state ‘Escape of water damage is one of the most common types of domestic property damage claims, with insurers paying out £1.8m for it every day.’

You may be wondering, is there a way to avoid this through Build to Rent leak detection?

Leak sensors can catch minuscule changes in humidity or water levels and send an alert immediately to property and maintenance staff as well as to residents. They are small and can be placed by major water sources across the property including by sinks in units or even water heaters in common and amenity areas.

Proactive water monitoring allows for proactive leak detection.
