This year’s HomeViews Resident Choice Build to Rent Awards will take place on 16 November at the UKAA BTR Fayre. Awards categories have been expanded for 2021 to reflect industry feedback and the rapidly-expanding dataset available to HomeViews, with thousands of verified reviews now covering England, Wales and Scotland. HomeViews CEO and Co-founder Rory Cramer explores what the 2021 awards have in store and gives a sneak peak at some of the top developers and operators contending for the prizes.

By Rory Cramer, CEO, HomeViews

Every year, we run the Build to Rent Resident Choice Awards to recognise and celebrate the sector’s biggest successes from a resident perspective. Ultimately, residents are the best indicator of how well the industry is doing, and our dataset of over 30,000 verified reviews is the best gauge of resident sentiment in the UK.

We’re seeking to improve the 2021 awards by adding new categories and changing existing formats. These are the result of us listening to feedback from our partners in the Build to Rent sector, and also taking into account the significantly larger dataset available to us in 2021.

New categories for 2021

Last year, the awards consisted of four awards: Top National Developments, Top Regional Developments, Top London Developments and Top Management Companies. This year, six awards will be presented, as listed below.

Top National Developments – 350 or more units

The Top National Developments award has been split into two awards to reflect the differing challenges faced by operators of larger and smaller Build to Rent communities. Build to Rent communities with 350 or more units will be considered for this award for larger Build to Rent developments.

Top National Developments – fewer than 350 units

This award will be presented to the highest-rated national Build to Rent development with fewer than 350 units. Smaller, ’boutique’ developments provide operators with unique opportunities to innovate, and this award celebrates those who achieve consistently high ratings from their residents.

Top London Developments

The Top London Development will be retained in the same format as last year. This award highlights the city’s best-performing Build to Rent developments and their approaches to building successful residential communities in the capital.

Top Regional Developments

The Top Regional Development award will be expanded to showcase the Top 20 highest-rated developments outside London. This was intended to better reflect the expansion of the regional Build to Rent category in recent years.

Top Management Companies (over 2,000 units)

Last year’s award for top Build to Rent management companies will be replaced with two awards – one for larger and one for smaller operators. This award will be presented to the Top Management Company with over 2,000 units

Top Management Companies (under 2,000 units)

The award for more boutique operators will go to the highest-rated Build to Rent management company with fewer than 2,000 rental units.

Key contenders

Without giving too much away, we can name a few operators and developers whose performance places them firmly in the running for these awards. You only have to look at the scores and reviews on our site to know that they’ll feature in any awards listings we could produce.

Vertus, Dandara Living, More. ‘Superenting’ / Allsop Letting and Management, Legal & General, Allsop Letting and Management, Urbanbubble and be:here have all achieved consistently outstanding scores across their developments.

We look forward to announcing the winners on the 16th – join us there!
