PLATFORM_ and Northwood Investors have reached full occupancy at the first Build to Rent scheme in Cardiff, Wales.

Build to Rent developer and operator PLATFORM_ alongside partner Northwood, have reached full occupancy at their landmark Cardiff development. As the first operational Build to Rent development in Wales, £50m was invested to deliver the city centre-based development, which is operated by Native Residential.

Adjacent to Cardiff Central rail station on Dumballs Road, the scheme includes 206 homes – a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments across 11 floors. With the option to customise their homes, residents can choose between a range of furnished and unfurnished options as well as interior colour schemes.

Thoughtful design has also created bright and spacious living and entertaining spaces, complete with floor to ceiling windows and contemporary kitchens with fitted appliances.

“We are very proud to have achieved full occupancy at the first Build to Rent development in Wales, bringing a forward-thinking model of renting to residents. PLATFORM_’s central Cardiff location and abundance of on-site amenities has attracted a wide range of residents at different stages of their lives. The common feedback that we hear is they’ve chosen to rent with PLATFORM_ as they prioritise quality, well-priced living accommodation and best-in-class service. Throughout the UK, there is an acute demand for homes that are more than just bricks and mortar; people want to be a part of a meaningful community that reflects their lifestyle and that is what PLATFORM_ is delivering, with more than 1,000 apartments being completed across three developments this year.”

Amenities at the scheme include a gym with Technogym equipment, a residents’ lounge and guest room. There are also two rooftop terraces with views over the city and Cardiff Bay, which recently welcomed residents for a summer party in collaboration with a local pizza company, to celebrate the milestone.

Residents are providing positive feedback on life at PLATFORM_ including the dedicated Resident Services team, smart-parcel management, regular social events, and a loyalty scheme offering discounts across a range of local businesses. The Co-op is also set to open a convenience store on the ground floor of the building.

The new PLATFORM_ neighbourhood offers residents a range of intuitive technology to enhance day-to-day living with secure keyless access, an app-based building portal, remote utility control and network-enabled gym equipment all underpinned by superfast fibre broadband available at speeds of up to 1Gbps.

In line with both companies ESG efforts, the development has been sustainably designed to minimise energy consumption with rooftop PVs generating on-site energy, as well as high-efficiency appliances and low-flow water fittings installed throughout. The development also provides an overall net biodiversity gain with soft landscaping and swift bird boxes improving the ecological value of the site.

“We are excited to soon be delivering the next two Build to Rent developments in both the Sheffield and Glasgow markets. This will provide individuals with the opportunity to access purpose-built rental new homes across the UK.”
