Watkin Jones has received planning permission for its £67m Hove Gardens Build to Rent scheme in Hove – by six votes to four. Brighton and Hove councillors met virtually on 2 September for the council’s Planning Committee meeting.
Watkin Jones plan to demolish the warehouses on the site later this year – and the Hove Gardens scheme is expected to be complete in April 2023.
Hove Gardens is located on Ellen Street. It will include 216 apartments – a mix of 31 studios, 101 one bedroom, 73 two bedroom and 11 three-bedroom apartments, providing homes for 600 people. It’s expected that at least ten apartments will be wheelchair accessible.
Watkin Jones has confirmed that the rent costs also include Sky TV, high-speed internet and access to the on-site gym. The development will also have a communal area, offices, cafés and space for shops.
There will be no car parking on the site – which aligns with the master plan for the area, which aims to ensure the whole area in the Hove Station Quarter is car-free. Residents also won’t be able to apply for parking permits in the area.
