Bespoke Build to Rent developer and operator – Packaged Living – has been granted planning permission this week from Newcastle City Council for Quayside 12 – a Build to Rent scheme on Newcastle’s Quayside. The new development will sit on a 1.5-acre brownfield site alongside the river – and will be Newcastle’s largest Build to Rent scheme to date. The site is the last remaining plot of the 1990’s Farrell Masterplan, which has been vacant for over 30 years. The site will be fully remediated prior to building the new development.
Quayside 12 will deliver 289 new homes – a mix of studios, one, two and three bedroom apartments alongside significant amenity space, commercial space and on-site car parking. Residents and locals will enjoy a wide selection of amenities from a resident’s lounge, co-working spaces, private dining rooms and recreational facilities. Construction on the site is due to start later this year.
“We are delighted to have reached this important milestone in our delivery of an iconic building at the heart of Newcastle’s quayside. The scheme will provide much needed quality, purpose-built rental homes to Newcastle. We look forward to a start on site by Q4 this year.”
Mark Woodrow, Managing Director, Packaged Living
At the forefront of the scheme’s design is environmental and resident considerations. Quayside 12 will be targeting net zero carbon construction targets and will select low embodied carbon in specified building targets. The development will also contribute key benefits to Newcastle city – which includes creating over 700 construction jobs and boosting spending in the local economy by an estimated £4m a year.
