Developer operator Moda Living appoints Michael Old to the role of Corporate Finance and Structuring. Michael joins the company’s central in-house investment team, strengthening its capabilities as it continues to deliver its 24,000-home pipeline.

Operating UK-wide, Michael will be based at Moda’s London office. He will work with Investment Director Guy Hurwood and the in-house investment team, advising on corporate finance, funding and deal structuring across Moda’s rental living portfolio. He will engage with the business’s growing pool of global institutional investors and agency partners.

“I am hugely excited to be joining the Moda Living team as they complete and consolidate existing development projects, progress their strong development pipeline and expand into more ‘for rent’ living markets. It’s a privilege to join a team that’s built a reputation for excellence, innovation and, crucially, delivery over recent years, and I look forward to drawing on my global finance experience to expand our investor relationships and forging new long-term partnerships for one of the most exciting growing businesses in real estate.”

Michael has over 30 years of real estate experience. He joins Moda from EY where he was a Partner in the UK Real Estate Corporate Finance Team. Before this, he held several senior positions in real estate finance at investment banks including Jefferies, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Rothschild & Co.

“Michael is a fantastic addition to the Moda team. With his background in corporate finance, global investor network and strong track record across multiple real estate sectors, including working on some of the living sector’s most significant transactions, we have no doubt Michael will be a terrific asset to our investment team as we continue to forge sector-leading deals across the UK.”

Michael’s appointment comes following recent news of the company completing the largest regional funding deal to date in the Build to Rent sector, with Harrison Street, Apache Capital and NFU Mutual.

The deal will fund Moda’s £302m (GDV) Great Charles Street Build to Rent development in Birmingham, which broke ground last month (April 2023). The scheme forms part of Moda’s £6.8bn pipeline, which spans Build to Rent and single-family homes, as well as the student accommodation sector. Moda recently entered this market with the launch of its wellbeing focused PBSA platform in March 2023.
