Specialist insurer Pension Insurance Corporation Plc’s (PIC) Millers Quay, a sustainable waterfront Build to Rent development at Peel L&P’s Wirral Waters in Merseyside, is approaching an exciting milestone. The scheme is almost ready to welcome its first residents.

Millers Quay is the cornerstone residential scheme that is transforming the left bank of the River Merseyside. Construction started on site in July 2022 and the development topped out in June 2023.

The pet friendly scheme includes 500 new apartments including 100 affordable homes in a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments and lower and upper floor duplex apartments. They are available either furnished or unfurnished and offer a contemporary design with high specification appliances and sanitary ware.

Apartments are spread across six buildings, named the Soda Factory, Salt House, Glaze Works, Lime Street, Steam Yard and Copper Mill.

The buildings names are inspired by the site’s heritage, which played a role in Birkenhead’s industrial history. The buildings boast striking and sustainable architecture and bright colours.

South facing waterfront apartments also offer residents views across the docks, south facing shared spaces, dockside walkways and access to micro parks and green spaces.

Residents also benefit from being a stone’s throw away from Liverpool One in the heart of Liverpool city centre, the Royal Albert Dock, the M&S Bank Arena, the Museum of Liverpool, The Three Graces (The Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building), and Matthew Street, which is known for the Cavern Club, a venue synonymous with The Beatles.

The Miller’s Quay development is part of a partnership between Peel L&P, Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council (WMBC) and long-term investor, PIC, who are Peel L&P’s funding partner. Construction company Graham is the contractor for Miller’s Quay.

Peel Waters appointed JLL earlier this year as the marketing, lettings and management agent for the scheme.
