In a new blog series, AGC BTR uncovers anecdotes and favourite pastimes from the Build to Rent industry experts and the team here at AGC. Kicking off the series is AGC’s Interior Designer, Sophie Wilson.

After receiving a First-Class BA Hons in Interior Architecture and Design, Sophie joined Accouter Group of Companies, initially working closely in the BoxNine7 division. With her sophisticated style, business-like mind and abundance of technical skills, Sophie has designed and managed some of the largest high-value projects we have facilitated across London. Since then, Sophie and the Design team have been busy collaborating with Build to Rent operator, Vertus, to create three unique and bespoke schemes that fit the premium 8 Water Street development: consisting of studio, one-bed, two-bed and three-bedroom penthouses.

Following the Canary Wharf development launch, AGC revealed their new AGC BTR brand in which Sophie works almost exclusively on. AGC BTR is revolutionising the future of Build to Rent by providing the services and talent from its entire portfolio of award-winning brands here at Accouter Group of Companies.

What building inspires you?

The Pompidou Centre in Paris, the architecture and design both inside and out is so impressive, it also has great views of the city.

What was the last thing that made you laugh out loud?

At the weekend, I was celebrating my birthday with friends!

An artist you most admire?

Carlo Scarpa. Carlo Scarpa was an Italian architect, influenced by the materials, landscape and the history of Venetian culture and by Japan. Scarpa translated his interests in history, regionalism, invention, and the techniques of the artist and craftsmanship into ingenious glass and furniture design.

Favourite furniture design piece?

The Angelpoise lamp, which I have also used recently in a couple projects, including our latest Build to Rent project.

A restaurant you most like to visit and why?

I would like to try the new Big Mama group restaurant that opened in Covent Garden called Ave Mario. The fun interiors have been influenced by Florence in Italy, and it looks like it would have a really great atmosphere.

Best advice you’ve ever been given?

The best advice I have ever been given was from my Economics teacher in school. ‘The glass is always half full.’

Most recent sustainable brand discovery?

I recently discovered Nove Lighting. They craft various pendants and lamps from cork oak trees and are fully sustainable. I hope to use them in a project in the near future!

Watch the full replay of the UKAA webinar featuring Sophie and other Build to Rent experts, and discover the challenges and trends within the design, tenant expectations, pet-friendly apartments, post-Covid life, and more. The panel also investigated hot topics such as sustainability in design and the value of good branding within Build to Rent developments.
