McAleer & Rushe – who were appointed to deliver the Exchange Square Phase 2 Build to Rent scheme in Birmingham – reaches a significant construction milestone, with the topping out of the 34-storey development. A ceremony was held to mark the occasion, which was attended by Grainger plc who will manage the scheme, developers Nikal and the wider design team.

Exchange Square Phase 2 will deliver 375 high quality Build to Rent homes, which were presold to Grainger. Amenities include a resident’s lounge, gym, co-working space and complimentary WiFi.

The Build to Rent development will include retail space on the lower ground floor and 40 undercroft car parking spaces. A new public square is also due to open shortly.

The Exchange Square Phase 2 development forms part of a new urban village which incorporates green infrastructure and landscaping, with a communal roof garden for residents located on Level 30. The development is a significant addition to Birmingham city centre.

The scheme is part of a two-stage project, with McAleer & Rushe recently completing a Premier Inn hotel which opened in March 2023.

“This is an exciting milestone for our Exchange Square scheme, which will be an excellent addition to our Birmingham and Midlands clusters, providing 375 high-quality, professionally managed and well-connected homes for renters in the heart of Birmingham. We look forward to seeing the scheme progress over the coming months ahead of our launch next year.”

“The project represents an important boost to the continued regeneration of Birmingham city centre supporting modern and sustainable communities, providing the opportunity for city centre living as well as linking residents to London in just under 50 minutes.”

The new Build to Rent scheme builds on Grainger’s existing portfolio of PRS investments in Birmingham, which includes Gilders Yard in the Jewellery Quarter, a 158-home Build to Rent development which successfully launched in 2022.
