The 32,000 sq ft offices on Clarence Road in Longsight, Manchester will be converted to offer 46 high-quality Build to Rent apartments on the former Job Centre Plus site, which has been vacant since August 2018. The site is located just miles away from Manchester city centre.
Planning documents suggest the Build to Rent apartments will have an open plan kitchen and living room, a double bedroom and bathroom. The entrance lobby will be demolished, however the three-storey building, car parking and car access points will remain.
Placefirst have a long-term plan for the site and their initial planning application is stage one of their strategy. Another application will follow once the principle of residential development is established.
Manchester council planning officers said they were satisfied that the development ‘minimises the impact’ on local roads and that there were no known contamination or flooding risks.
Placefirst pride themselves on creating neighbourhoods where renting can be a long-term alternative to buying a home. They recently submitted planning for a multimillion-pound Build to Rent scheme in Wolverhampton, which will see 350 new Build to Rent homes.
