Residential architecture practice – Jo Cowen Architects – bolsters its senior team with a newly created role of Strategic Director. The appointed, Laura Cassullo joins the company from global architecture firm Broadway Malyan, where she was the Head of UK for over six years. Laura was responsible for leading a team of over 130 architects, designers, master-planners, and urban planners.

Laura oversaw the design of several large-scale residential developments at Broadway Malyan, including EcoWorld London’s 910-home Build to Rent scheme by Brentford Football Club Community Stadium, and Erith Park, a 900-home joint venture regeneration project from Orbit Group and Wates.

“Laura’s blend of residential and hospitality experience means she is well positioned to support us in our focus on the UK living sectors, as housing increasingly borrows from hotels and vice versa.

“As a Strategic Director at Jo Cowen Architects, Laura will focus on elevating our existing master-planning and urban regeneration expertise while helping shape the company’s culture and direction as we look to keep growing.”

In her new role, Laura will focus on complex, residential-led urban regeneration schemes, building on the practice’s expertise in master-planning. She brings over 20 years’ experience to Jo Cowen Architects – including a role at architecture firm 3DReid, which has over 130 staff across five UK studios.

“I have long admired Jo Cowen Architects for their ability to deliver high quality design while balancing the commercial imperatives of investors and the needs of local authorities.

“The company has a genuine commitment to diversity, which is reflected in the make-up of its senior leadership team, as well as to community engagement, as seen in their mentorship programme, which were all a key draw for me to join.

“The UK living sectors are an exciting space to be in right now and I Iook forward to working across a number of high-profile schemes that genuinely challenge our traditional understanding of what good urban regeneration looks like.”
