HG Construction has broken ground at the £69m BeckYard Build to Rent scheme in Leeds for developer McLaren Living and funding partner, the European residential specialist investment manager Heim Global Investor – following their partnership last month.

The milestone was marked by an official ground-breaking ceremony a couple of weeks ago.

“We were delighted to gather at the Leeds site last week for an official ground-breaking ceremony to mark the commencement of this fantastic scheme – our third scheme in Leeds and our fourth UK scheme for the McLaren Group.”

HG Construction was appointed as main contractor for the BeckYard scheme, which is fully funded by Heim Global Investor with grant support from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Brownfield Housing Fund.

Designed by Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher (CJCT), the BeckYard Build to Rent scheme will will transform the current vacant former car park site into the planned residential led neighbourhood.

Located in the South Bank Regeneration area – a rapidly emerging residential and mixed-use quarter located in Leeds city centre – BeckYard will deliver 375 new homes comprising a mix of 200 one bedrooms, 139 two bedrooms and 36 three-bedroom homes – split across two connected buildings ranging from 12 to 26 storeys.

Amenities include residents’ lounges, shared workspaces, a gym, events areas and roof gardens. The development will also encompass public realm and landscaping, including new gardens with a rich biodiverse mix of plants.
