Goodstone Living, the specialist real estate investment manager established by Macquarie Asset Management to pursue opportunities in the UK’s Build to Rent sector has bolstered its team with the appointment of George Jolliffe – former Cushman & Wakefield Associate Director – as Acquisition Manager.

George has almost a decade of experience in the residential real estate sector, having previously held roles at Cushman & Wakefield, Savills and NRE UK. As Goodstone Living seeks to develop the next generation of residential communities across the UK, George will be responsible for identifying and acquiring Build to Rent opportunities.

“The Build to Rent market continues to go from strength to strength, reflecting a powerful cultural shift taking place across the UK as demand for rental living continues to grow. The presence of institutional capital will play a key role in the expansion of the sector for many years to come and I am delighted to have joined a platform that has experience, sustainability and innovation at its core.”

Macquarie Asset Management currently oversees over £394bn of assets under management globally and established Goodstone Living in June 2021 – to capitalise on the opportunities it saw in the UK’s burgeoning Build to Rent market.

Goodstone Living is focused on the acquisition, development and operation of Build to Rent communities in urban locations across the UK. It is overseen by Darryl Flay and Martin Bellinger – two industry heavyweights best known for establishing Essential Living, the UK’s first private Build to Rent developer and operator.

The company’s vertically integrated platform combines the deep expertise of its leadership team with the global experience and investment capability of Macquarie Asset Management. Better homes; bigger, better spaces; and better, simpler service represent some of the core principles underpinning Goodstone Living’s approach.

The specialist real estate platform announced its first deal in July 2021 after acquiring Camp Hill Gardens, a four-acre site in central Birmingham. When completed, Camp Hill Gardens will be home to over 550 units in the creative quarter of Digbeth and will offer over 22,000 sq ft of amenity space which will include an onsite gym, co-working areas and rooftop terraces. The scheme will also prioritise sustainable building practices, delivering a +50% reduction in operational carbon (vs. current building standards).

Macquarie Asset Management also has considerable experience in the Build to Rent sector, with a long history of advising and partnering with specialist multi-housing operators to raise over £10.6bn ($US14bn) from institutional investors over the past ten years via a diverse range of strategies and platforms.

“George will play a crucial role in our development as we assert ourselves in this highly competitive marketplace. The growth of Build to Rent has become a defining feature of the global real estate industry over the last decade and the UK is fast becoming one of the most interesting markets. We have built strong momentum since our launch in June last year and know that George will make a great contribution to our continued growth and team.”
