Build to Rent developer – Placefirst – have unveiled the first phase of properties to be released for let at a new landmark £16.5m development in Sheffield. The site is off Skye Edge Avenue, close to both City Road and Granville Road – two of the busiest routes into the city. The Skye Edge Build to Rent development has been built on land that has remained vacant since 2005, and the scheme is expected to be completed by Autumn 2021.
The show home and the first 21 Build to Rent homes are now open for viewings. Each home delivers modern living with stylish interiors and practical layouts for busy family lifestyles, or for those who are looking to start a career in the city. Each home has a separate lounge and kitchen, with residents able to enjoy both private and communal garden spaces.
Once completed, the Skye Edge Build to Rent scheme will deliver 113 homes – a mix of 69 three-bedroom and 44 four-bedroom townhouses. The development is located at the boundary of Norfolk Park and the Manor area of Sheffield and is visible from miles around – with a unique 270-degree view of the cityscape and moorland to the West. The site has been awaiting redevelopment since 2005, so is anticipated to have a transformational effect on the wider area.
“Offering arguably the best views in Sheffield, this is a major landmark development for us and one which we feel will be embraced by families seeking quality built homes and superb commuter routes into the city centre. As a developer, our long-term vision for Skye Edge is to create a vibrant, thriving community which complements and enhances the surrounding area.”David Mawson, Chief Executive, Placefirst
Residents can benefit from convenient commuter routes and a 10-minute walk to the city centre. There are seven primary and secondary schools within reasonable walking distance to the development – including five that have been given a Good outcome by Ofsted. Economic growth in Sheffield is also outperforming other regional cities and according to Fitzwilliam Capital Partners, is on target to create an additional 70,000 jobs by 2025.
Skye Edge is underpinned by Placefirst’s aim to offer a viable alternative to home ownership. As well as letting properties, the developer also designs, builds, maintains and manages the homes – providing peace of mind to families looking for new affordable modern living.
“Expensive house prices can be out of reach for many hard-working families. We therefore believe that renting can be a long-term alternative to buying a house and feel this development will appeal to those wanting the security of moving to a new home for the rest of their life – without the financial pressure of being saddled with a mortgage. We look forward to welcoming people to Skye Edge to view our beautiful new homes and experience the views they have to offer.”David Mawson, Chief Executive, Placefirst
