Hosted by deverellsmith’s Head of Build to Rent Nick Hammond as part of the ‘A New Lease of Life’ sub-series, Nicola Fleet-Milne, CEO of FleetMilne reflects on her inspiring journey to success, her commitment to Colmore BID and what plans she has for the year.

Nicola is the owner of award-winning estate agency FleetMilne in the vibrant Colmore BID district, Birmingham. Since establishing FleetMilne in 2004, Nicola has steered the company to prominence, earning it a respected reputation as one of Birmingham’s premier residential agencies.

Beginning her career journey at Knight Frank, she established FleetMilne when she decided to make a splash into the industry as a business owner. In year one, Nicola set a realistic goal of letting 60 properties. However, she unknowingly doubled this target and managed 120 properties that year. During this time, she unintentionally recalls “taking the entire portfolio of [her] old company”, reflecting the company’s level of service and high standards as worthy of going back to. She says to Nick that she still has some of those original clients onboard even now.

Nick goes on to ask Nicola what sets her and FleetMilne apart from the competition. She states that the level of service that she offers is “excellent” and placed clear emphasis on “calling you back”, highlighting the company’s commitment to communication and customer satisfaction.

Lettings and professional management services are at the core of FleetMilne. Because of this, Nicola states that the transition into Build to Rent was seamless, as the principles of her company – those that she has upkept for the 20 years of FleetMilne’s establishment – reflect that of the sector. As early as 2016, the company was involved in the consulting process. Therefore, when the first Build to Rent development launched in 2018, FleetMilne were there from the start.

Going forward, Nicola aims to transition the company from the consulting stage into operating and managing full Build to Rent schemes.
