Furnishing provider for investors, developers, and operators – David Phillips – was announced as the winner of the Supply Chain and Overall Whole Life Costing awards at November’s UKAA Build to Rent Conference 2023.

These awards reinforce the firm’s wholehearted dedication to supporting the Build to Rent sector’s drive for sustainability. Working closely with partner, Get Living on multiple projects such as East Village played a key role in their success.

“These awards are a great achievement and signify further endorsement of David Phillips’ continuous drive to impact positively whole life costing. We’re proud to have been recognised by the UKAA and this will only further enhance our team’s dedication to being both the market leader in ESG strategy and supporting investors to become more sustainable, at asset level first.”

Nick Gill, CEO, David Phillips

Appointed to carry out a full ‘refresh’ of 1,400 apartment units for Get Living’s East Village neighbourhood, the company coordinated clearance of all furniture and replacement with new products involving approximately 30,000 furniture items.

Using their proprietary system VAMOS, David Phillips supported the client with a data-led approach to furnishing and managing its assets allowing for informed decisions. The vast amount of clearance items also led to the creation of its take-back scheme Release, whereby furniture is saved from landfill, inspected, and either repurposed, recycled, reused, or donated to local charities.

“Sustainable communities play a vital role as we transition to a net zero economy. Our partnership with David Phillips has gone from strength to strength, working closely on projects such as that at East Village. The team’s invaluable asset management system, VAMOS and take-back scheme, Release, has reduced our environmental impact and improved our whole life costing.”

John Inglis, Head of Net Zero, Get Living

David Phillips has pioneered design-led furnishing solutions for property professionals for over 25 years with the concept of delivery, assembly, and installation of furnishing the next working day. They lead the market in delivering solutions for a range of sectors including Build to Rent, purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA), Residential, Social, and Retired Living.

“When David Phillips first presented their ‘end of life solution’ to replacing the furniture at Get Living’s East Village estate, I knew they had thought deeply about ‘whole life’ and ‘ESG’. Their approach of collect/inspect/refresh/reuse/recycle/donate meant that over 70% was reused or repurposed, and that was a game changer. I believed at the time they had a market-leading process, and I congratulate them on this very deserved accolade, both as Supply Chain and Overall Winners in the category.”
