Cortland appoints Chief Operating Officer for the UK

Cortland appoints leading industry figure as COO for the UK, who brings deep expertise as the company furthers its commitment to UK market opportunity.

Build to Rent real estate investment, development, and management company Cortland announces that Tracey Hartley has joined its London office as Chief Operating Officer – Europe. Tracey will play a key role in helping Cortland continue to grow its portfolio and further its ambitions to elevate the rental living experience across the UK.

The new hire adds to Cortland’s senior team in the UK market and is a sign of the company’s commitment to playing its part in improving the availability of high-quality, inspiring spaces for people to live in.

Tracey brings a wealth of experience to the role and is well-known for being a residential investment specialist, leader and industry contributor. Over her  career, Tracey has worked with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities on its Private Rented Sector (PRS) Taskforce, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors to bring about the first industry wide PRS Code of Practice, and the Institute of Residential Property Management to create Ofqual regulated Build to Rent qualifications, while holding senior roles in the industry. Tracey is also passionate about diversity, equality & inclusion and has mentored young women with The Girls Network for more than seven years, offering mentees inspiration and motivation across various professions.

Prior to joining Cortland, Tracey worked at JLL as Head of Residential overseeing The Crown Estate’s residential portfolio  – the largest property owner in West London – where she was responsible for delivering excellent customer service, maintaining high levels of compliance in all aspects of health and safety, and striving for ambitious net zero carbon targets. Prior to this, Tracey worked for the family-owned Howard de Walden Estate, where she sat on the cross-sector Executive Committee board and led a residential portfolio valued at approximately £1.4bn, with a rent roll of over £30m. Tracey has also been involved in a range of influential sector-shaping groups – such as a board member of the British Property Federation Residential Board, Chair of the BPF Residential Management Committee, and Co-Chair of the UKAA Education, Policy and Research Committee.
