Progressive North West property developer and asset manager – CERT – submits a new planning application for a Build to Rent scheme on Cross Keys Street in New Cross, Manchester City Centre.

The scheme is backed by the family office of local and high-profile entrepreneur, Oliver Cookson, who is committed to investing into his home city.

“We’re pleased to be able to bring forward this project, being our second in the New Cross neighbourhood and our second with Oliver and his family office team. This neighbourhood is a great example of how co-ordinated urban regeneration can transform areas, with most of New Cross being car parks or disused properties only a few years ago. We believe in the location and the continued strength of the residential market in Manchester and are looking forward to bringing this scheme forward.”

Howard Lord, Managing Director, CERT

Designed by Tim Groom Architects, the proposed scheme includes 99 new Build to Rent homes in a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments and townhouses, some with terraces. The development will also include a landscaped courtyard, communal lounge and rooftop garden.

The site of the scheme is located on a now disused car park that was first developed in the early-19th century, becoming the Royal Lancastrian School.

It is also located alongside CERT’s first Build to Rent venture with Oliver Cookson – Peelers Yard. Works have started on the 81-apartment development on the historic 1800s police station site on Goulden Street.

Both projects are backed by the MyProtein Founder and once complete, they will be operated by CERT’s property management team.

“I’m thrilled to be partnering with CERT to bring two exceptional developments to life in my hometown of Manchester. As someone born at Withington Hospital, just five miles away from the site, it’s a deeply personal experience to be investing in the local community that has shaped me.

“I’m excited to see the positive impact these developments will have on the neighbourhood. These projects will not only provide high-quality housing in a prime location, but also support the thriving community of independent businesses in the area. As the Founder of Verve, a greens powder business, I’m passionate about creating healthy and sustainable living spaces that benefit both people and the planet. I’m proud to be giving back to the community that has given me so much, and I’m looking forward to seeing the benefits these developments will bring to the local community.”
