Caddick Construction tops out at rental homes provider and regeneration specialist Placefirst’s Cow Green Build to Rent scheme in Halifax, which is expected to complete in 2025.

After having the plans for the development approved by Calderdale Council last year, work started at the £21m scheme in Halifax town centre to deliver 122 sustainable homes in a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments.

Now, Cow Green has topped out, with the last roof slab being cast by Caddick Construction. Once the development is complete, Placefirst will remain on-site providing management and residential services as the scheme’s operator.

Based on the site of a former multi-storey car park, Cow Green will be Placefirst’s most sustainable project to date as it transitions towards net zero, with a thermally efficient building envelope bolstered by photovoltaic panels, air source heat pumps and wastewater heat recovery. The scheme will also include electric vehicle charging and an electric car club for residents.

Designed by JM Architects, the development takes inspiration from the town’s rich heritage. The scheme will also integrate with the Council’s wider Cow Green public realm and highway improvements.

Other key members of the project team include DEP Landscape, Walker Sime, Roscoe, TACE, Maddox Planning, Hydrock, Hill Dickinson and West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
