Contractor Big Red Construction has announced the launch of BR2.0 – an evolution of its business following significant investment into the company and a raft of senior hires.

BR2.0 is a platform that will provide end-to-end property solutions across development, construction and asset maintenance, under the ethos of Develop. Deliver. Maintain.

As a part of its significant expansion drive, the company is seeking to deliver 750 units per year by 2030 – a mix of residential and Build to Rent, rapidly increasing headcount over that time.

To realise its ambition, BR2.0, through its development arm Xpercity, has already secured over 175-unit development plots across Manchester and is actively looking for new development opportunities to add to its growing portfolio.

Xpercity will have immediate access to a significant war chest, which is able to fund its development pipeline. Big Red Construction will capitalise on its extensive refurbishment and new-build expertise across major sites in the north.

The company’s maintenance arm, Inspired, will act as an asset maintenance and project management part of the business. Together, these three strands of the business bring together three entities: Xpercity, Big Red Construction and Inspired.

Having these through entities creates an end-to-end offer in the property space, removing barriers to the timely delivery of new projects.

“The way we’ve structured BR2.0 allows us to retain control of a project in its entirety, meaning we have better oversight around location, timings and quality of build.

“Utilising the extensive expertise of our teams we can create inspiring developments with the long-term in mind, helping to regenerate cities, address housing needs and release capital for funders. The establishment of Xpercity and Inspired alongside Big Red represents a step-change for our organisation, opening-up significant opportunities for major development sites. We are aiming to capitalise on the significant success we have seen in recent years with the growth of Big Red.

“We are taking a practical approach to property development, ensuring investors and funders can realise their returns with confidence, whilst maintaining a strong social purpose, something that is at the core of our group of companies. Having a strong, positive social impact will be at the heart of what the business seeks to deliver across its portfolio.”

The company, which was founded in Huddersfield in 2016, will move its headquarters to Ducie Street, Manchester, a city the company has seen prolific activity in over recent years.

The move will involve a headcount of around 32 initially being based out of the new offices, which cover around 4,500 sq ft. Big Red Construction is seeking further strategic development opportunities across the North and Midlands.

The company is also on site as main contractor for CERT’s Peelers Yard Build to Rent scheme in Manchester. Works are underway to deliver 81 new homes at the development, which is backed by Myprotein and Verve Founder, Oliver Cookson.
