Property consultancy Bidwells has appointed Mark Teasdale as its Head of Economics and Social Value to bolster the company’s socio-economic planning offering. The new hire comes at a time when considerations around social value are becoming an increasingly important facet of planning applications.

With a Master’s in Public Affairs and Urban Planning from Princeton University, and a first degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University, Mark brings over 30 years’ experience delivering complex, mixed-use schemes, often subject to environmental impact assessment (EIA), to Bidwells.

Mark has extensive experience in assessing socio-economic, housing and health impacts to support major planning applications and Development Consent Orders.

He joins Bidwells with substantial expertise in teasing out the regeneration rationale for development schemes and identifying and quantifying economic benefits to meet local community needs.

“Bidwells’ planning team have advised on some of the most important regeneration projects in the Golden Triangle, so I am especially excited to join the firm as it looks to embed social value in its planning offer for clients and throughout its own activities as a business.

“Whenever we are promoting sites or schemes for new development, we always seek to understand how proposals can best be shaped to meet the needs of local communities. We look to create enduring social value and to measure our social impact wherever we can.”

He will also be responsible for developing the Bidwells social value strategy, ensuring the business grows and measures the positive social impact its activities have on the communities it works in.

“We are delighted to have Mark join our team. He has class-leading experience in carrying out social value evaluations, grounded by a first-class academic background as a trained economist. Social impact has become an increasingly important part of the applications we make on behalf of our clients, demonstrating the value to the community the development will bring. We are confident that Mark will be able to add real value to the services we are able to offer our clients.”
