Renters never left the city – a bold statement made by urbanbubble, the award winning residential community manager. As lockdown restrictions ease, and businesses and office spaces reopen, there’s a lot of talk about renters moving back to the city. As highlighted by urbanbubble, this certainly is not the case with one city centre community – Anco&co.
In late 2020, Build to Rent development – Anco&co – in Ancoats opened its doors to Manchester’s rental market. The pet friendly scheme was developed by DTZ Investors. The community came out swinging with bold slogans and a persona of protest, declaring that ‘renting just got good’.

The Anco&co scheme includes 143 Build to Rent homes with designer furnishings and voice controlled tech. Amenities include a rooftop terrace, private dining room, cinema room, co-working space and an onsite cocktail bar.
“There has been a lot of discussion around renters leaving the city during lockdown, but this is just not the case with Anco&co. Demand for this city centre community has remained strong throughout the past year, defying market trends. Why? Because this place is truly unique, in a fantastic location and has so many amenities that people are scrambling to be part of. Where else has an on-site cocktail bar?!”
Christian Birrell, Director, DTZ Investors

As of September 2021, the development is now fully occupied and home to a thriving community that are living proof that close connections do exist in city living. Championing wellness, sustainability, technology and community, Anco&co is shaking up the rental sector and proving to be a huge success.
“urbanbubble’s latest quarterly analysis (urbanbubble market and insights report, Ed Howe) of the rental market in Manchester has identified that letting demand in Manchester is up 139% when comparing to this time last year.
“People are talking about renters returning to the city, but with Anco&co, they never left. Anco&co is a ‘new way of living’ that recognises a home as more than just a place of shelter, but an office space, work out zone, weekend hangout and everything in-between. It’s an amazing community and this is why it has consistently been in high demand.”
