Anston House – dubbed the ugliest building in Brighton has been granted permission to be demolished. And if plans are approved, it will become a Build to Rent scheme with 229 apartments, shops and offices.
Owned by First Base, the buildings on Preston Road will reach up to 15 storeys with 30 affordable homes which was agreed in the current planning. Builders Henry Construction Projects have applied to Brighton and Hove City Council to amend the planning permission for the scheme – to now deliver Build to Rent homes. They would offer at least a three-year tenancy agreement with a six-month break clause, and 5% of accessible homes.
Henry Construction Projects raised the idea of diversifying from its original plan to develop a Build to Rent scheme when they reviewed the originals plans put forward by First Base. The proposals also put forward a 15-year covenant for the apartments to remain as rentals.
The application was mentioned at the council’s virtual Planning Committee meeting on 20 May but was deferred until 10 June – to allow members time to review the information.
