Build to Rent scheme – New Garden Square gets approval

Court Collaboration has been given the green light for its third Build to Rent development.

Residential developer, Court Collaboration has been given approval by Birmingham City Council to deliver 392 high-quality Build to Rent (BTR) apartments. The scheme is part of a wider regeneration at New Garden Square on the Calthorpe Estate.

The £93m scheme is Court Collaboration’s third BTR project in the region, which will transform the outdated commercial estate into a vibrant 10.7-acre mixed-use destination. The spacious one, two and three-bedroom BTR apartments will be developed by Calthorpe Estates and U+I.

“New Garden Square will be a fantastic addition to the city and will bring this currently outdated site firmly into the 21st Century. The properties will be built using a wide range of modern and sustainable building methods, to offer a desirable rental investment opportunity in the city.

“We are thrilled to have now received planning permission from Birmingham City Council and look forward to starting works onsite shortly.”

The masterplan

The BTR scheme is a key aspect of the wider New Garden Square masterplan, which will encompass up to 500,000 sq. ft of Grade A office accommodation, residential properties with private car parking spaces, bars, restaurants and convenience stores.

We are committed to delivering developments which support local communities and economies, and New Garden Square will be no exception.

Set around a stunning public realm garden square, formed from an eclectic series of gardens and mature trees, it will retain the existing Grade II listed buildings fronting Hagley Road.

Transport links

Residents will benefit from the Metro extension up the Hagley Road from Birmingham city centre, with an Edgbaston Village terminus stop opposite the scheme. The new SPRINT network will follow the Metro’s arrival and continue along Hagley Road to Halesowen and Dudley – in advance of the arrival of HS2.

Completion of the project is anticipated by Q2 2022, with construction works on the apartments expected to start this spring.
